About

Origins

Furry Blue Studios traces its roots back to 2005 when a teenage Tony Bark, inspired by the DJ group Generation Trance, aspired to become a DJ himself. Adopting his fursona, a blue fox named Zack Casey, he took on the name “Furry Blue DJ”. However, due to a lack of a proper music library, technical limitations of the time, and unforeseen life events, he was a DJ in name only.

Despite formally owning the furrybluedj.com domain, the site primarily focused on other media while Bark attempted to build a music library. Following the rise and fall of Furry United, a social network he administered that was powered by Ning’s former free plan, Bark shifted his focus to building communities but never abandoned his dream of becoming a DJ.

Transition and Expansion

In late 2022, Bark ventured into self-hosting and purchased the domain furryblue.com, dropping the “DJ” from his moniker to host future original music made in GarageBand using Funkwhale, an open-source and decentralized audio streaming platform. However, after a family member fell terminally ill, the domain and plans were temporarily forgotten.

A year later, Bark rediscovered the domain and hosted other web apps to serve as filler content. By this time, he had built up a substantial music library, including songs from Generation Trance’s Voices of Trance and seasonal mixes. Realizing he could finally fulfill his dream of being a DJ, Bark decided to publish these mixes as a podcast, akin to how modern DJs host theirs.

Present Day

Bark discovered Castopod, an open-source and decentralized podcasting platform, and installed it on furryblue.com, rebranding it as Furry Blue Studios. Today, Furry Blue Studios serves as the hub for Bark’s other syndication projects, with the Furry Blue DJ serving as the flagship.
